Okay, so I just read the most recent article posted on Disney's Star Wars Blog and I am totally geeking out!!!

They have given us a small sample of what to expect in the future Galactic Starcruiser resort experience.  Imagine living in a fully immersive Star Wars world for 2 whole days!  OMG, I need to start prepping now (and probably start saving money for it too)!  Rumor is that a cabin that sleeps up to 5 people starts at $3,300.  Sounds steep, but we can almost always count on Disney delivering what it says it will.  And if they deliver on this, it'll be money well spent!  Think of it as a 2-day cruise, in outer space without leaving the comfort and security of Earth.  I'm completely content being grounded on terra firma, so this is my kind of cruise!

However, an even bigger barrier than the price to most fans wanting to stay here will be the size of the hotel.  It is rumored that there will only be about 100 guest rooms.  Imagine millions of people wanting to stay at a hotel the size of a Holiday Inn Express!  It is going to be a galatic battle to get a reservation once this opens!

But let's talk about what we have to look forward to!  Reading between the lines on Disney World's blog, and based on research conducted by other Disney nerds out there, this is what I anticipate:
  • The cost of the stay will be just like a cruise.  All food, drinks, and recreation for 2 days and 2 nights on the Halcyon cruiser will be included.  (The cruise vacation model is truly brilliant for an immersive experience such as this one.  I mean, it would certainly ruin the authenticity to see someone pulling out a credit card or cash to pay for their meals!)

  • Also included in the cost will be easy, immersive access to Galaxy's Edge/Hollywood Studios.
  • The hotel will be located directly outside of Galaxy's Edge with a bridge connecting it to Batuu near the Black-Spire Outpost.

  • Once you are ready to board your pod, you will probably be taken by a bus, that you will never see the outside of to the hotel.  The bus windows will be screens that give the illusion of flying through space and docking the Halcyon cruiser.  (This is completely speculative, but we know that Disney wants to make this feel 100% authentic and this is the best way I can imagine it being done).

  • From the moment you step out into your pod headed for the landing bay of the Halcyon, you will be in a Star Wars world, so plan to dress accordingly (and budget for souvenirs accordingly too).
  • Disney won't exclude anyone for not being authentically dressed, but they will highly encourage it and will provide an easy (but not cheap) way to do so.  I imagine, there will be an Earthside prep station at another resort or separate location.  Here, you will travel through security much like at the entrance to a park or an airline and will not have to do so again for the remainder of your stay (including when you travel to Galaxy's Edge in Hollywood Studios).  After the security entrance, you will have a galleria to explore that will have outfits and weapons available for purchase (such as interactive light sabers).

  • Disney has already started building the hotel.  I imagine their goal is to open it in time for Disney World Resort's 50th anniversary on October 1, 2021.  It's crazy to imagine something this spectacular being ready in that amount of time, but if anyone can make it happen, Disney can.  I think even C-3PO would agree that the odds are good!

Disney: The Most Magical Place on Earth

Disney is touted as the "Most Magical Place on Earth."  Before we finally decided to take our two princesses, I thought, 'This is going to be a disappointment.  There is no way Disney is going to live up to the hype.'  Man, was I wrong!

After our first trip, we were hooked!  Now that we've been several times, I've learned a lot (through both experience and research) about how to have an awesome Disney trip.  This blog is for those of you venturing into Disney for the first time with young kids.  I hope what I share here will be helpful and that you will have as great a time building memories at Disney as we have.
